WHY THIS INSURANCE?

Your income is
your most valuable asset.

You insure your car, your home, even your phone. But without your income, none of that is possible. Disability insurance protects the source of everything else.

Most people underestimate this risk. A long-term disability is statistically more likely than an early death during your working years.

The right amount depends on your net income, your fixed expenses and the support you already have. Alexandre works it out with you - never a generic formula.

TESTIMONIALS

What clients say

Chronic tendinitis put me out of action for 4 months. My disability insurance - deductible as a business expense - covered 85% of my net income. Without it, I would have drained my savings.

TG
Thomas G.
IT consultant, self-employed

Alexandre explained that my group insurance only covered 2 years. I was 35. We set up an individual policy until age 65. The price difference was minimal for far superior protection.

PREMIUM CALCULATION

How is the premium
calculated?

Several factors influence your premium. Alexandre guides you toward the best conditions for your profile.

Get my estimate
Age and duration
Sign up early to lock in your premium

The younger and healthier you sign up, the lower your premium and the longer it's locked in. A temporary disability or health issue can reduce your future insurability options.

Profession
Higher-risk trades pay more

Insurers classify professions by risk level. An office worker will get different conditions from a roofer or a healthcare professional. Alexandre knows the best options for your profession.

Income to protect
Amount and waiting period

Coverage is calculated on your net income. The waiting period (30, 60, 90 or 120 days) directly affects the premium - the longer it is, the lower the premium.

Chosen definition
Own vs any occupation

The 'own occupation' definition is the most protective but also more expensive. The 'any occupation' definition is cheaper but requires you to accept any job you're qualified for before being compensated.

YOUR QUESTIONS

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between 'own occupation' and 'any occupation'?

The 'own occupation' definition protects you if you can no longer perform YOUR specific trade - even if you could do other work. The 'any occupation' definition only pays a benefit if you can't perform ANY job matching your qualifications. The first is clearly superior.

Is my group insurance at work enough?

Often no. Group insurance generally limits coverage to 2 years (with an 'any occupation' definition afterward), caps the amount, and isn't portable if you change jobs. An individual policy advantageously complements or replaces group coverage.

Is disability insurance deductible for a self-employed worker?

If you're self-employed, the premiums can be deductible as a business expense under certain conditions - in which case the benefits will be taxable. If you pay the premium personally, the benefits are generally tax-free. Alexandre analyzes your structure to advise you.

How much does disability insurance cost?

The cost varies based on your age, profession, income, chosen waiting period and coverage duration. As a rule, expect between 1% and 3% of the annual income to protect. Alexandre prepares a free estimate within 24h.

What is the waiting period?

It's the period between the start of your disability and the first payment (usually 30, 60, 90 or 120 days). The longer it is, the lower the premium. Alexandre helps you choose the period that fits your financial situation.

Can you be declined for disability insurance?

Yes, depending on your health and profession. That's why it's important to sign up while you're healthy - once declined or with exclusions, it's hard to find full coverage elsewhere.

Is this the same as personal loan insurance?

No. Disability insurance replaces part of your income if you can no longer work - the money is yours and can be used for any expense. Loan insurance (or creditor insurance) pays a loan balance directly to a lender in case of death or disability. These are two distinct products.

Can I increase my coverage later?

Many policies offer a guaranteed insurability option. It lets you increase coverage at key moments - marriage, a child, a raise - without new medical evidence. Alexandre checks whether this clause is included.

What does partial disability cover compared to total?

Total disability means you can't do your job at all. Partial reduces your capacity without eliminating it, and some policies pay a proportional benefit. Alexandre makes sure your policy covers both scenarios.
