YOUR CORPORATE RISKS

The 4 risks your business
can't afford to ignore

Shareholder agreement

Without insurance, buying back a deceased shareholder's shares requires cash the business doesn't always have. Corporate life insurance funds that buyback.

Key person protection

If the driving force of your business falls ill or dies, operations, clients and financing are at risk. Key person insurance stabilizes the transition.

Owner's income

A disabled entrepreneur receives no employment insurance. Deductible disability protects your personal income with premiums paid by the company.

Capital on diagnosis

A cancer or stroke diagnosis often means 6 to 18 months off work. Corporate critical illness pays immediate capital to keep operations going.

TESTIMONIALS

What our entrepreneur clients say

My partner and I had never formalized our shareholder agreement. Alexandre showed us what could have happened if one of us had died. The next day, we booked an appointment with our notary.

My accountant explained the deductibility of corporate disability, but it was Alexandre who helped me choose the right amount. The premium comes out of the company, not my salary.

I thought my personal insurance covered everything. Alexandre showed me that if my business lost its key person, the impact on my bank financing would have been immediate.

FAQ

Entrepreneurs' questions

Why take out life insurance through my company rather than personally?

When the company owns and is the beneficiary of the policy, the capital paid on death flows through the capital dividend account (CDA). This allows a tax-free distribution to surviving shareholders - a major tax advantage over a personal policy. Alexandre works with your accountant to optimize the structure.

What happens to my business if I'm disabled for several months?

Unlike employees, entrepreneurs have no right to employment insurance in case of disability. If your income comes from your company, a prolonged disability can put the business at risk. Deductible disability insurance replaces your income, and the premium is deductible for the company.

What is a shareholder agreement and why is insurance necessary?

A shareholder agreement defines what happens to a shareholder's shares in case of death, disability or departure. Without adequate funding, surviving shareholders may be forced to accept heirs as partners or sell company assets to buy back the shares. Corporate life insurance funds that buyback cleanly.

Are my disability premiums deductible in my company?

Yes, if the policy is taken out in the company's name. Note: if the premiums are deductible, the benefits will be taxable on receipt. If the premiums are not deductible (personal policy), the benefits are tax-free. Alexandre works out with you which scenario is most advantageous given your tax situation.

Do I need insurance if I already have significant cash in my company?

Maybe, but cash is usually needed to run operations. Using it to buy back shares leaves the business weakened at the worst time. Corporate life insurance is a predictable monthly cost for capital available instantly when needed.
